Pamela Maxwell went to West Virginia Wesleyan College to earn her bachelor’s in Nursing and graduated with her Nurse Practitioner degree in 2014. Not only did she help start the nurse practitioner program at WVWC, but she was awarded “Student of the year” in 2014 as well. In 2018 she was nominated for “Professor of the Year”. She has experience in medical-surgical nursing and has performed surgical office procedures and urgent care, as well as in family practice settings. Pamela not only has experience in opioid addiction but is a certified provider in the state of West Virginia that enjoys seeing her patients recover under her care. She has experience as a college professor of nursing, teaching assessment skills and pathophysiology. She was nominated for professor of the year, her first year of teaching, and positively impacted the lives of the students whom she had the opportunity to teach. Pamela is a breast cancer survivor who helped treat her own cancer. She learned throughout this whole process, how to incorporate natural remedies along with conventional medication to get the best out of what both have to offer. She is excited to announce that she had a pathological complete response and that the cancer is gone! She is excited to use her degree and past experiences to be the best she can be for each one of her patients.
Pamela’s most recent work experience started in Bridgeport Behavioral Health Center working with patients struggling with both psychiatric and mental health issues. She took this position very seriously and consistently went above and beyond for her Clients. She does not believe that anyone should struggle daily emotionally, especially to the point where it becomes overwhelming and affects their quality of life. Past work experience includes working as an FNP in August 2017 as a walk-in provider for West Virginia Wesleyan College and she also helped as an Assistant Professor of Nursing. She was nominated for Professor of the Year and her former students continue to keep in contact. She also worked for Community Care before accepting employment from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Before a medical leave in 2015, she worked at Bridgeport and Elkins Express Care, which are urgent care facilities as well as primary care clinics. Her job duties were urgent care related
Throughout her career, she acquired skills in patient assessment and gained a solid foundation in providing holistic care that focuses on all aspects of a person’s health: emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychosocial. She has experience in wound care, simple suturing, injections, IVS, chest ports, postmortem care, death and dying, patient advocacy, chronic healthcare, and many other aspects of patient care.
During her clinical experience for her MSN, she had an extensive rotation at the VA hospital which involved practice in areas including Urology, Dermatology, Radiology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, and the Emergency Department. Her roles included not only exceptional patient care but patient histories, physicals, assessment, diagnosis, treatments, and plans for a good patient outcome. Other areas of clinical experience included Pediatrics and Women's Health at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. These experiences opened the door for her to assist in surgical interventions and many other procedures.
Pamela furthermore has former experience in CCU as an RN with many variations of job descriptions. Her past experiences have given her the confidence, experience and knowledge that has helped her care for patients, as well as enhanced her abilities to collaborate with other health care professionals. She is passionate about helping others and realizes that critical patient care requires a solid foundation in nursing skills, prioritization of care, and communication skills. These skills, coupled with her compassion, patience, and patient advocacy are just a glimpse into what makes her such an amazing Primary Care Provider.
When asked why she chose a career in Healthcare, she responded by saying “I love the excitement of healthcare and the opportunities to help patients and their families. I was created to be nothing other than a Family Nurse Practitioner and I am honored to have assisted West Virginia Wesleyan College in starting their very own FNP program. I absolutely am thankful that I am able to truly help people feel better and lead healthier, happier lives. I take my role in their journey to healthier living very seriously and am grateful to be part of the process of changing lives for the better.”
Pamela recently began her own journey, which involved creating “Integrative Family Medicine, LLC” so that she can provide more direct care to her patients without the concerns of being kept on a strict time frame per patient. She has spent the last two years, while also working building her business and has sacrificed beyond comprehension so that her patients feel welcome, comfortable and actually look forward to going to the doctor opposed to dreading it. She has successfully done this down to the very smallest of details, including remodeling that she primarily did all by herself.
Pamela furthermore has 3 beautiful, talented and extraordinary daughters and enjoys many things, which include singing, playing the drums for the band at her local Church, spending time with her family, volunteering in her community, reading and also loves (and is very talented by the way) playing the guitar and piano. Music is one of her biggest passions and she truly has a natural gift to inspire others through the songs she creates. Pamela also has a cute and tiny fur baby appropriately named Sassy, who I am certain will be one of the business’s finest greeters.
